Promotional materials created for the Lake George Opera have won two 2006 American Graphic Design Awards. The winning pieces were among only 10 percent of entries recognized for excellence from thousands of submissions.
“We developed a suite of promotional materials inspired by the opera ‘The Mikado’ that followed the theme of imperial Japan,” said creative director Christy Ann Coppola. “ We commissioned a custom illustration, dramatic and expressive, from noted Toronto artist Harvey Chan, which was used on all pieces. To reinforce the high artistic standards of the Lake George Opera experience, we created printed pieces that look and feel rich; the postcard was printed on a specialty textured paper that gave the illusion of silk textile, reminiscent of a Japanese kimono.”
“The season marketing materials are wonderful,” said Roberta Ricci, former Director of Marketing at LGO. “The postcard in particular is gorgeous, not to mention effective—it helped drive up advance ticket sales.”
The awards are sponsored by Graphic Design USA, one of the country’s premier design trade publications. The pieces will appear in the annual showcase edition of Graphic Design USA in December.
